We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people's ability to move - whether for work or play.What we do:The Head of Powertrain is responsible for leading the development and integration of innovative battery electric vehicle powertrain architectures and system designs to achieve functional and performance requirements. The role works with groundbreaking technologies including high voltage battery packs, cells and modules, traction motors, power electronics and powertrain controls to integrate powertrains to meet customer requirements, ensure safety, and that designs can be manufactured and produced economically.What you can do:Leads comprehensive teams of battery technology, electric propulsion, and dynamic systems that develop safe, certifiable EVTOL powertrain solutions that meet or exceed market demandsAssumes engineering responsibility for assigned programsArchitects and supports staffing of an impactful engineering organization with experienced, yet forward-thinking team membersProvides leadership to a large technical staff to ensure program successPrepares plans and assign projects and responsibilities to subordinatesProvides collaborative input about powertrain considerations developing innovative EVTOL aircraftGuides the powertrain technology development efforts and ensures they are aligned to the needs of the aircraft and businessLeads development of requirements and supervises validation and verificationEngages with regulatory authorities to facilitate the relationships required to certify sophisticated aircraft electric powertrain systemsMaintains effective communication with suppliers, customers, and internal departments concerning technical issues affecting the programFacilitates opportunities for collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group companies, suppliers, and research institutions in the development of new and novel EVTOL powertrain technologiesIdentifies and reviews opportunities for developing and/or acquiring new technologies required to improve EVTOL powertrain safety, reliability, performance, weight, and costOther duties as assignedWhat you can contribute:Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or applicable science degree (e.g. physics)A minimum of 20 years of experience in powertrain, high power & voltage applications, and/or aerospace propulsion (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)In-depth experience with battery electric powertrain development and/or other high voltage & power applications including system architectures, component selection, and validationProvide dynamic vision for developing new and innovative powertrain technologies, being able to quickly and accurately determine how best to pursue new opportunitiesKnowledge of aerospace drivetrains, especially rotorcraft and propeller aircraftKnowledge of battery cell specifications, module and pack design, thermal management and integrationExperience with all facets of product design and certification, including conceptual design, preliminary design, detail design, prototype fabrication and assembly, bench test of complex systems, flight test, certification, entry into service, and sustainmentVTOL aircraft certification experience (Part 27/29) and/or fixed wing (Part 23/25) certification experience as well as familiarity with relevant standards desiredExperience with electric powertrain controls, power electronics and motorsFamiliarity with electric powertrain simulationAbility to build relationships quickly and effectively with internal and external leaders and to utilize these relationships to ensure successExperience working closely with multi-disciplinary teams of leaders to ensure the best quality decisions are made for the team as a wholeDynamic and effective leader that can build and maintain a team of hard-working, forward- thinking individualsAbility to distill high level goals and budgetary constraints into clear, concise, and actionable objectivesAbility to identify action plans, assign resources, and monitor activities to ensure project deliverables are metExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProactive delivery of communication and follow upExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailMust have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraintsSelf-motivated and forward-thinking personalityYou may also be able to contribute:Advanced Degree (Master's or PhD) preferredAny offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background check.
